More fragile than the rest of our wardrobe, our bras require special care. But when it comes to laundry, it's hard to know when it's time to wash them. In a period of confinement due to the Coronavirus epidemic, we take the opportunity to focus on the subject.

If everyone has their little habits to maintain their clothes, it is often more difficult to develop the same mechanisms in terms of the maintenance of their lingerie, in particular their bras. If there is no miracle answer to this question, it is certain that washing your bra after each use is the best way to damage it. Going through the machine too regularly damages the pieces of lingerie, especially if it is fine or lace lingerie. If you absolutely insist on washing your bra each time you use it for hygienic reasons, then it is best to wash it by hand or machine wash on the silk programme.

How to wash your bras?

À quelle fréquence faut-il (vraiment) laver ses soutiens-gorge ?

To avoid damaging your lingerie pieces, it is better to wash by hand. For this, use lukewarm water and a detergent for delicate clothes. Leave to soak for a few minutes and rub gently. Rinse with cold water and let dry. If due to a lack of time or motivation, hand washing is not an option, put the bra in a washing net before putting it in the washing machine. Always favor a detergent for fragile laundry and set your machine on a gentle program and never at more than 30 degrees.

Can you wear the same bra several days in a row?

As you will have understood, wearing the same bra two or three days in a row is completely acceptable and even encouraged so as not to damage your pretty lingerie. However, it is advisable not to wear the same bra for more than three days in a row, as the latter is in direct contact with the skin and perspiration. By wearing it for more than three days, you therefore run the risk of bringing many bacteria directly to your skin… It is therefore essential to invest in several bras in order to be able to wash them regularly. As far as sports bras and brassieres are concerned, we nevertheless get into the habit of washing them after each use.
