Caroline de Maigret: "My 11-year-old son thinks I'm cool"

Straight jeans, large men's sweater, hair still wet, nude complexion and a broad smile as the promise of a beautiful day. When Caroline de Maigret arrives at the Daylight studio in Paris, we are struck by this casual chic look, which has become her signature, both rock and racy. She masters like no other the alliance of masculine and feminine, which impresses as much as her famous effortless coat of arms, often overused among others but not at all among the one who was a top model, before becoming the symbol of LA Parisienne among a thousand other things. A distinctive sign that Mademoiselle de Maigret fully assumes: she has also made a book of it, entitled How to be Parisian Wherever You Are (Doubleday editions), co-written with three friends and has become a best-seller translated into twenty-five languages. It is no coincidence that this independent, cultured and eclectic woman knew how to seduce who named her ambassador of the house Guru of style, incarnation of a falsely casual elegance, she lived in New York, posed for great photographers before setting up his production company on the lookout for future rock talent. A music fan, she produced groups like BB Brunes or Naast, and signed the soundtrack for the film Bus Palladium, by Christopher Thompson, with her partner. With him, she forms a couple of trendy Parisians (they share the same dressing room,…) who like to travel the roads of France or go to the end of the world in the course of their artistic commitments. Exotic epics that can be found on his Instagram account among the photos of his shoots and behind the scenes of fashion shows. Meeting with a muse made in France.

Fashion

“It’s a personal and intimate moment that we give ourselves, a little joy to add to our daily lives. My taste for fashion comes from my musician companion, because it was with music that I discovered that you could develop your personality through clothes.

My Icon

Caroline de Maigret:

“Keith Richards. Coolness, sensuality and a rock’n’roll side emanate from his style. It's a source of inspiration for me, because it always has a little something extra that will twist its look. And, over time, I too have learned to find the detail that makes a look more interesting. It can be a touch of color, stripes, an accessory… It is in any case a strong piece around which I build my look to find myself, while having fun.”

Combat gear

“To feel strong, I would tend to wear a fairly long blazer, because I find the garment elegant and powerful. The shoulders immediately give a certain hold and this pushes you to stand up straight. Without forgetting the hands in the pockets, which bring constancy and a nonchalant attitude.

My basics

“A white men’s shirt slightly more open than normal. It's like my best friend, and every time I wear it, I get compliments on my skin tone. But also a leather jacket, I bring back from all my travels, boyfriend jeans (with a preference for fairly thick canvas) and a little black jacket.

The transmission

“At home, my sisters and I were brought up like our brother, with the same freedom. And since we were more of a tomboy, I really looked in the mirror for the first time the day I became a model. That's when I realized that I had a big nose and not a lot of chest, because I was immediately asked to have surgery if I wanted to work. At the time, I was studying at the Sorbonne, and if I worked as a model to be financially independent, I found it absurd that I was asked to change my face to take pictures.

My style

“He went through all the musical genres I listened to. My look was first grunge - my mother thinks that I never got out of it. It then became gothic: I had a transparent black veil that I put on all my looks. Then I started wearing big sneakers, loving punk and hip-hop. And today, Yarol says that my style is rock'n'roll, my friends see me as a chic Parisian, and I find myself rather androgynous. As for my 11-year-old son, he finds me cool… Consecration, for a mother!”
