Fight against COVID-19: the Academy of Sciences of Mali sensitizes the public on the importance of vaccines

The 500-seater amphitheater of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (FSEG) of Bamako served as a framework this Saturday, October 30, 2021, for the holding of a thematic conference on the COVVI-19.The objective of this conference, organized by ASM, is to better inform the public about the variants of COVID-19 as well as on vaccines administered in Mali.

It was under the chairmanship of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Pr Amadou Keita in the presence of the Minister of Health and Social Development, Ms. Diéminou Sangaré, the president of the Academy of Sciences of Mali Abdel KarimKoumaré.

In welcome words, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research declared that this disease affected all sectors of the world, almost 2 years ago.He praised ASM's initiative in the face of students who need real information to make this disease better understand.

So far, for the Minister of Health and Social Development, some people do not believe in the very existence of coronavirus disease.It does exist, specifies the Minister.‘’ Vaccination is the only way today to fight against serious form, I invite everyone precisely the students to be vaccinated.We have vaccines that are available throughout the territory and at the level of all health centers, "added the Minister.

As for the president of ASM, Professor Abdoul Karim Koumaré, former surgeon of great international renown, he said that the anti-Cavid 19 vaccines have arrived for a while and the populations have been dragging their feet to govaccinate."Aware of the dangers linked to this disease, we have thought spontaneously without us being seized by the ministry, to start awareness -raising actions, to inform the population of Mali on a scientific level, in order to avoid loss of vaccinesand especially losses in life, '' he says.

In his presentation, the first speaker recalled the origin of viruses which are older than humans on earth.The way of contamination, symptoms, the mechanisms of propagation of the disease in the Malian territory, the stages of development of vaccine in the world were explained in detail by Professor Mahamadou Ali Théra.He then exposed the various vaccines administered in Mali.According to him, on October 30, 2021, there are 245,014,863 cases of COVID-19 and 4,972,321 dead in the world.For the case of Mali, with regard to vaccination, he will say that only 265,740 persons have made complete vaccination, while 57,687 did it incompletely.The reluctance is due, according to him, to poor information on social media, and rumors, among others.

Like the first, the second speaker, the lecturer Bourema Kouriba said that ‘’ The day we have a maximum of vaccinated people, we are sure that we will be able to control this disease ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’’ ’.Says the learned institution of Mali (the Academy of Sciences of Mali) can never expose the population to something that can be dangerous for her.He invited students to be vaccinated to curb the spread of pathology, not only in university space in particular and in general in our country.

Let us add that two sanitary teams were on site.One for vaccination against coronavirus and the second for tests.ASM invites the public to be vaccinated to protect themselves, protect relatives and protect other citizens.
